Harakeke Weaving

The Kiwis Reading Groups in Rm 14 & 15 have been learning how to weave with a super parent helper - Elisa! The students read lots of different stories about harakeke. They learnt about the protocols around how to harvest, handle and create a basket from flax. Don't they look amazing?! Thank you Elisa!!!

Yay! Room 14 and 15! We have a chrysalis!!!

When we got to school this morning we were all so excited....we had a chrysalis! Is it going to be a girl or a boy????

New Cushions

Mrs Newton's Mum made us some cushions so we can get comfortable working on the stage. Mrs Symns brought them to school for us. We love then so much. Thank you!

Creative time

During choice time on a Friday some boys like to make creations with objects around the room. They have made houses and last Friday these boys made a boat!

Values Awards Term 1, Week 8

Looking out for others; looking after our Parua by being aware of how others are feeling
Zac had hurt himself in the playground at lunchtime so his friend Cody helped him up to accept his award. Good work Cody....we like to see children with empathy!!!!

Unfortunately Mr Leadbetter was away on Friday so he will give out his awards next week. Well done everybody for looking out for others.

Sumo Paint

Room 14 and 15 have been learning new skills on the Chromebooks. This week some of our reading groups have learnt how to use Sumo Paint to create pictures about the books they've read. Check them out!

Yep......Bobella!!!!

"Bob" emerged from the chrysalis this afternoon. After pumping liquid into the wings and spreading them out I could see that in fact - Bob was a female. The butterfly wings have thicker markings and no scent spots so indeed Bob is Bobella. Here are some shots of her a bit wrinkled before starting to get used to her beautiful change. Change can certainly be good!!

Bob is nearly ready Room 6!!!

Today as I was packing up to leave I took a final check of our Swan Plants. I was so excited to see that in the space of a couple of hours, Bob's chrysalis had become almost transparent. If you look carefully you can see Bob wrapped up and safe in his haven. Look at those beautiful wings. Can't wait to see Bob......or will it be Bobella???? emerge!!

Bob's amazing and highly anticipated transformation

We all have Swan plants and caterpillars in our learning spaces. We have been eagerly watching the caterpillars grow...little munching machines! In Room 6 we have Bob and Bruno who are in the final stages of their metamorphosis by resting in their Chrysalis. Meet Bob:
He was our first to make the "J" shape and form a chrysalis.
Ms Ewart was the first to have a butterfly hatch today.....so exciting!

Marae Trip 2019

Our Pārua had a wonderful day at Rehua Marae. We were welcomed on before having time in the Marae to look at the carvings, the tukutuku and the Kowhaiwhai panels. In the afternoon we enjoyed the sun at a local park. Kia ora to all of our parent helpers that supported us in the day.

Butterfly Lady Visit

We were so lucky to have Maria Romero come to school and talk to us about Monarch butterflies. We thought she was so interesting. She had lots of information to share with us and lots of things to show us. We put on cool butterfly wings and flew around the room.
We made her a special card to say thank you and she said that it was the biggest card that she had ever received!!!! All of our classes have swan plants to look after and we are hoping to have some beautiful butterflies to release!

Can you spot the run away caterpillar?

Our thank you card to Maria!
